Digital working
Support for working from home and on the go
Ever since the coronavirus pandemic, working from home and digital working have become the norm for many FAU employees. They write e-mails from home, take part in online meetings with their colleagues or prepare videos of lectures. To make sure these tasks can be carried out productively and without any problems, the Erlangen Regional Computing Center (RRZE) offers various services as well as the hardware and software required.

An overview of the general and digital services offered by the RRZE including detailed instructions is available online.
Writing and receiving e-mails
You can use the Outlook web app (Outlook web access) to read and send e-mails from home. You can access it via your web browser.
Virtual meetings
Virtual meetings held via Zoom and other platforms have become an everyday occurrence for most employees. In addition to Zoom, the RRZE provides other tools for meetings such as DFNconf or Jitsi. Microsoft Teams can also be used as a tool for holding meetings and has several other useful features for efficiently managing teams while working from home. The RRZE has put a decision-making tool online to help you decide which virtual meeting tool best suits your needs.
Internet and web
Employees who need to access data on their work computer or who use certain tools that are only available via the University network need to use a VPN connection. VPN allows you to log on to the FAU network from home, which enables you to access working time tracking or certain Occupational Safety websites, for example. Detailed explanations and instructions are available on the RRZE website.
Videos and streaming
Teaching staff in particular rely on being able to offer their modules online. The “Schnell digital” platform provided by the Innovation in Learning Institute (ILI) provides assistance with this. The Multimedia Center at the RRZE provides support with all aspects of making videos of lectures and seminars and streaming them.
Hardware and software
You may need additional hardware and software for digital working from home or in the office such as laptops, webcams or headsets. Here too, you can ask the RRZE for advice after consulting with your manager.
