New Data Protection Officer at FAU
FAU welcomed its new official data protection officer on May 20, 2023. The appointment of Klaus Hoogestraat from ITM Gesellschaft für IT-Management mbH means that FAU has, for the first time, appointed an external service provider for this role, one who has a great deal of expertise in data protection for research institutions.
Specialist knowledge for a special role
A university is a place like no other, also when it comes to data protection. At FAU, a large amount of personal data from students, employees, researchers and other parties is processed. These data include everything from personal information such as names, addresses and contact information to sensitive data such as grades, information about health or research data. Data protection at FAU must therefore encompass the wide variety of data types as well as the various purposes for which data are processed at the University. With ITM Gesellschaft für IT-Management mbH, FAU has gained a partner that has specialist knowledge, several years’ experience in providing advice to other institutions, has comprehensive resources and a special infrastructure, has an independent perspective and is always up to date with new data protection regulations.

All members of FAU can contact the Data Protection Officer directly. The Data Protection Officer is obliged to maintain confidentiality when dealing with your inquiry. You can contact him with queries relating to all aspects of data protection, for example regarding the rights of data subjects, how to deal with breaches of data protection regulations, or the use of applications supplied by third parties.
